AND DR MELVIN MBAO

After graduating from the University of Cape Town with his medical degree in 2007, Dr Melvin Mbao went on to complete his internship at Shimankane Tabane Hospital for the next year. In January of 2010, Dr Mbao began as a Community Service Officer in the Medical and Orthopaedic Department of the same hospital. In 2011 he started as a Medical officer in the department of medicine at the Klerksdorp (Tshepong) Hospital Complex, where his primary duties involved patient care in the form of ward rounds in the outpatient clinic.

From there he moved to the Witwatersrand Hospital Circuit in 2012 which is spread over 3 academic hospitals, namely Chris Hani Baragwanath, Helen Joseph & Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospitals. Here he worked in Internal Medicine as a Medical Registrar while completing his qualification as a Specialist Physician through the Fellow of College of Physicians of South Africa.

After completing his Master of Medicine degree at the University of Witwatersrand in 2015, Dr Mbao began his fellowship in Gastroenterology in 2016 at the Witwatersrand Hospital Circuit. After completing his fellowship in 2018 and having obtained his Certificate in Gastroenterology, as a Specialist Physician and Gastroenterologist Dr Melvin Mbao opened his private practice at Life Peglarae Hospital in Rustenberg. With his specialised skills as a gastroenterologist, Dr Mbao offers services for both routine colonoscopy, gastroscopy or a digestive health checks and more specific gastrointestinal problems. With his disciplined nature and a keen eye for detail, Dr Melvin Mbao strives for accurate diagnosis and believes in going the extra mile for patients providing them with the best possible care.
